It's nice when your friends win stuff, it's even nicer when it is so well deserved, and our friends at White Peak distillery have really won big - Wireworks Bourbon Barrell has been named Whisky of the year by The Whisky Exchange! Which is a very big deal, and the first time a non-Scottish whisky has ever won! Huge congratulations.

We have been a massive fan of White Peak Distillery since the first day
National Trade Sales Manager Richard McKeand walked in and asked us if we would like to try some whisky (it's a tough life). We brought our first 3 bottles, and haven't looked back since. Based in Derbyshire and established in 2016 in an old wireworks factory on the River Derwent, the distillery certainly looks the part, and the bottles pay homage to its industrial past with a beautiful spiral running through the glass. We see a lot of bottles in this game, so appreciate the gooduns.

Not wishing to judge a liquid by its bottle (although it is often a good indicator, unlike the traditional maxim), the whisky itself tastes as well thought out and considered as the bottles, made with love. I'm not going to embarrass myself and pontificate on the nuances of flavours here; there are many others far more qualified than I to do that. I'm just going to say I really, really like it, and I am very proud to stock it in the bar.
We have five expressions at the moment for you to try, each unique in its ageing and finish, but all interesting and most importantly tasty. Click below to get more of an idea of the :
So yeah, amazing and well done to the Whitepeak team. If you happen to be passing in Derbyshire, I recommend a visit, or if you're passing, Milk pop in for a wee dram. Or better still, come to our tasting in June! I promise this was not just an elaborate pitch, its really going to be special.
Any way thats all folks
Cheers!
Tim
